J M Brown Ltd were instructed to undertake façade restoration works to a commercial property in Green Park, focusing on stabilising and repairing areas of damaged stonework. The building required specialist conservation techniques to ensure the structural integrity of the façade was maintained while carefully restoring the original architectural details.
The project began with the installation of stainless steel armatures (pinning) in areas where the masonry had become unstable. These discreet structural supports were introduced to provide additional strength and stability, creating a secure foundation for the subsequent repair works to be built upon. Particular attention was given to the damaged cornice, where careful restoration was required to reinstate the decorative stonework while preserving the character of the original façade.
Following the stabilisation works, the team carried out a series of specialist masonry repairs, including moulded Portland mortar repairs to reinstate decorative elements and flat ashlar repairs to restore areas of weathered or damaged stone. The façade was then finished with stone pointing, ensuring the joints were properly sealed and protected while maintaining the traditional appearance of the building.
These carefully executed restoration works helped return the façade to a sound and visually cohesive condition, preserving the architectural integrity of this prominent commercial property while ensuring its long term protection.
